Individual Counseling

You do not need to be single to come to counseling alone.

Individual counseling can be helpful whether you are currently in a relationship, dating, navigating a breakup, or reflecting on recurring patterns across different relationships. It offers a space to explore your thoughts, emotions, needs, and experiences in greater depth, and to better understand the factors that may be contributing to conflict, uncertainty, or distress.

You do not need to be experiencing a crisis to benefit from counseling. Sometimes people seek support because they want to better understand themselves, navigate an important relationship decision, or approach their relationships more intentionally.

My role is not to tell you what decisions to make, but to help you better understand your situation, explore different perspectives, and make choices that align with your values, needs, and circumstances.

You might be looking for support with:

• Relationship difficulties and recurring conflict

• Communication challenges

• Dating and relationship patterns

• Breakups and relationship loss

• Intimacy, trust, and emotional connection

• Jealousy and insecurity

• Boundaries and people pleasing

• Non-monogamy and alternative relationship structures

• Repeating patterns across relationships

• Relationship decisions and life transitions

Individual or Couples Counseling?

If your concerns primarily relate to a current relationship, it may be worth considering whether involving your partner would be beneficial. While individual counseling can provide valuable space for reflection, some relationship dynamics are often easier to explore and address when both partners are part of the conversation.

For this reason, I generally do not transition from extensive individual counseling with one partner into couples counseling with both partners. Developing a deep understanding of one person's perspective over time can make it more difficult to maintain the neutrality and balance that couples counseling requires.

Individual sessions may also take place as part of ongoing couples counseling. In those situations, both partners have equal access to individual sessions, and any individual conversations are conducted in a way that supports the couples process as a whole.

If you are unsure which format would be the best fit, we can discuss this during the introductory call. You can also learn more on the Couples Counseling page.
